cut it again :)

It's growing really fast so I won't make you wait to see it for yourself. So, here's somepictures. I'm not sure what came over me, but I decided I to try it really short again. Might as well since I already cut off half of it.

the cookies

I made about 30 dozen cookies and candies for Christmas. I made about 5 dozen peanut blossoms, 12 dozen mini chocolate chip cookies, 4 dozen snowballs, 8 dozen chocolate covered mint patties (and one disastrous batch of mint taffy that had a good funeral in the trash can). I still have the box to send to mom, but other than that I gave away 11 boxes and two small bags of these delicious little confections. I also still had about 2 dozen left here but thankfully my roommate and boyfriend are making quick work of them. It took me a couple days to recover from all the baking, shopping, wrapping and sleepless angst. My kitchen was a disaster, my goodies from Christmas were all over my apartment, and my room was a mess of dirty laundry... It's all clean and back in order now! woo-hoo and I still have a couple dozen cookies left :) (plus the ones that arrived from mom as soon as all mine were packed to go) :)

I don't know what I'm going to do after new years, when all the hustle and bustle is over with. I'll have to find something to fill up the days with. Maybe I'll take the offer for the free martial arts class... I could certainly use the exercise after the cookies... and huge delicious dinners... and other stuff that makes pants too small.

Someone with a lot of persuasive powers suggested that I keep fresh cookies around all the time, which would work actually cause after a couple weeks of always having sweets around I don't like them anymore.

wrapping paper drive

Christmas is sneaking up on me! Really. I have... two Christmas presents. I don't know what to get anyone, and I have about a dozen people I feel like getting something for. I know, there are some people who say 'I don't want anything' but too bad. I feel like giving you something for Christmas anyway. There's only a few days left. Wrapping paper is going to be really interesting, cause I don't have any and I don't feel like buying it. But they have to be wrapped, you know? (time to get creative)

the hair...

You're going to be shocked when you see my haircut. I was going to take off 6 or 8 inches and it turned into 10 or 12. I like it though :) no more split ends!

and there it is :)

the hair and the haircut.

I have some before and afters too but they're poor quality...

I know, I need to clean the mirror.

the job and the roommate situation...

I'm not sure if you know about it, but my roommate moved out on me while I was in Australia. I did everything I could to not worry about it while I was on vacation, especially since there was nothing I could do about it. It did bother me quite a bit though, and slowed me down for a couple days. I suppose I wouldn't have met the same people or taken the same route while I was there but I might have made it a little further north. I put so much time into planning for this trip, and making sure everything would be good and taken care of until I got back, and the one person who I was depending on fucked me over. Thanks Andrea. (and that's all I'm going to say about that to save a little face for her) I'll find a new roommate and not hold her responsible for the year lease that she signed.

While I was gone, my employment situation also changed. I came back to find a new GM was in charge at my restaurant. When I left I was under the impression that my job would still be here when I got back, but the new GM had different plans. When I went in to get back on the schedule she informed me that I wouldn't be working there anymore. I really think she did it just to make and example. I worked at Manzana for over a year and only had three write ups. Regardless, I had to find a new job too.

So everything has changed since I got back. I got rid of all the rubbish that was left in the spare room. I found a new roommate who's moving in on 12/1. He seems like a cool respectful guy, and he's 26 so he's probably got a better sense of responsibility.

I started working at Yama, a Japanese Fusion restaurant in Bellevue. I'm not serving tables yet but when I start I'll be making about the same amount as I was at the last place. I really like the fact that they're not corporate too. I don't think I'll have to worry about the management changing always changing. My co-workers are cool and the place is a little laid back for how professional we look.

Things are falling back into place quite nicely.

home

I' flying home today, In San Francisco right now. I'm sad to leave Australia so soon. I could spend an entire year there. I'll be home tonight if anyone wants to go out. Give me a call :)

The day I left was so sad. I had to do a lot of traveling to get home. I got on the bus from Arlie at 6am, so I could catch a ferry to Hamilton Island at 7am. Then, I flew from Hamilton Island to Sydney, transferred to San Fransisco, transferred to Seattle, then caught a bus from Seattle to my home. The whole process took about 32 hours.

I slept for most of the 13 hour flight from Sydney, and when I got to San Fransisco all I could think about was how I wished I was still in Australia. I've got all sorts of little trinkets to remember little stops along the way, and my name is still tanned on my foot from the first day on the Whitsunday sail trip. I really must have been lacking some judgement to get on that plane and come home.

I hope all of the friends I made on the trip will keep in touch and keep me posted on their travels.

I've already started planning for my next adventure. I might go to Australia again but really I'm not sure where I'll go to this time. I know one thing though, I'll certainly go for much longer.

Whitsundays

After Fraser Island, Todd, Farrell (the Canadians), Jasper (guy from Holland) and I all piled into the van again to continue on to Arlie Beach. Jasper only rode as far as Bundaberg.

We arrived in Arlie late Friday night and checking into a room at the Hostel was hell. I finally got settled in and went to bed around 2am. The next day I checked into a better room at the hostel and spent the next couple days just bumming around town.

The Whitsundays sail trip left on Monday morning. There were 26 passengers and 5 crew on the boat. The cook wrote every ones name on their foot so we could all get acquainted. We spent 3 days sailing around the Whitsunday Islands, snorkeling and scuba diving.

We set anchor at Whitehaven beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and took an introductory scuba course from the on board instructor there. That night everybody got drunk off goon (cheap box wine) and a few of the crew and passengers went ashore to do fire dancing. I tried it for the first time, and even thought I probably looked like a complete idiot, it was a lot of fun. It was really easy to go to sleep that night.

The next day we set sail again and headed on to another Island where there was a lot of reef action. I got tons of pictures here. We did another scuba dive, and spent most of the day snorkeling. That afternoon we went to a smaller Island and stayed for the sunset. There was a sand bar that stretched out quite a way, and there were stingrays swimming about in the warm shallow water. We all got drunk and slept on the boat again. A lot of the passengers were up till 2 or 3am, and I think I was probably one of the first awake the next day.

We spent the last day on the same Island and did more snorkeling. As the tide was going out, we all walked out on the sand bar. I touched a sea turtle that was close to the shore of the sand bar. We had lunch, and then motored over to another small Island where we went for one last dive. It was really active here, with several different types of coral and fish. There was no wind that day so we had to motor all the way back to Arlie.

When we got to Arlie, I was exhausted but also excited to go out with everyone that night. I got showered and made my final travel plans, then met up with everyone for drinks. The night was never ending. Around midnight a lot of the people who went out were off to catch a bus on to their next destination. I ran into a bunch of the people I had met on the Fraser Island trip. I told them I was leaving the next day and they told me I shouldn't go to sleep. I stayed up all night dancing, until 5:30 when I decided it would be a good idea to get my stuff and catch my bus. I really didn't want to go.
